UC launches Associate Dean Search
University College formally launched the search for a new associate dean this month.
The dean, Keisha Hoerrner, charged the seven-member Associate Dean Search Committee to oversee a comprehensive search process. The committee is chaired by Michael Dishman, interim dean of graduate studies, and includes committee members Yen Rodriguez, leadership coordinator
Center for Student Leadership, Linda Lyons, assistant professor of Education, Pinder Naidu, assistant professor mathematics, David Schmidt, senior lecturer of English, Jim Davis, associate professor of Theatre and Performance Studies and Chris Hutt, director of Advising Office for New, Exploratory andStudents in Transition (the NEST).
The Associate Dean for University College will report directly to the Dean and will be responsible for oversight of the college’s academic support initiatives. Specific responsibilities include the coordination of initiatives designed to increase student retention and degree completion such as Orientation and Transition Programs, the ESL Center, the SMART Center for science and math tutoring, the NEST, and Supplemental Instruction as well as Thrive, a special program designed to assist a target population of incoming first-year students retain the HOPE scholarship. Additionally, the Associate Dean will collaborate with the Honor’s College, the Center for Student Leadership, and college personnel operating on the Marietta campus.
