University College says farewell to Dean Keisha Hoerrner

On July 29, University College will say farewell to Dean Keisha Hoerrner, who will be heading to Orlando, where she has accepted a position at the University of Central Florida.

"I am very thankful to Kennesaw State for 16 years of professional growth and new opportunities. I have learned a great deal while working with many wonderful colleagues," said Hoerrner.

During her sixteen years of employment at Kennesaw State University, Hoerrner has served in many capacities, most notably chair for what was then named the Department of First-Year Programs from 2007 to 2012, associate dean for University College in 2012 then Interim Dean  in 2014 before being named Dean in April 2015.

Hoerrner spearheaded several initiatives including co-creating the award-winning Thrive program, KSU 1111 (a globally focused first-year seminar), the Global Scholars Experience and the First-Year Global Fellows Program in Tuscany, Italy.

In 2013, Hoerrner was honored as an Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate by the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.

In addition to her work with incoming students, Hoerrner is also dedicated to community engagement. She served as the co-faculty advisor for the KSU chapter of the ONE Campaign, a national grassroots advocacy group working to end extreme poverty and hunger. She was appointed the 2007 Chair of the Darfur Urgent Action Coalition of Georgia, a statewide coalition of faith-based human rights and advocacy groups. Hoerrner has held leadership roles in modern-day abolitionist organizations working to end human trafficking locally, nationally, and internationally. More recently, she served as Vice President of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Kennesaw, a civic organization working to better the lives of children and families in the local community and across the globe.

"I am transitioning to a new position in another state to ensure my daughter has a positive high school experience in a community that is supportive and welcoming to LGBT students. Mark and I are focused on doing what is best for our family, and this move at this time is best for our family. University College is a vibrant part of the institution, and it will continue to grow and develop in meaningful ways. It is and will remain an integral part of the university's commitment to student success,” said Hoerrner.

The Provost, Dr. Ken Harmon will be naming an Interim Dean in the coming days.
