University College welcomes a new director

Dr. Tommy Jackson will serve as the new director of Advising for University College.

 

Jackson, a former defensive tackle for the Atlanta Falcons and the Kansas City Chiefs, most recently served as the director of Football Academics at Kennesaw State University.

 

​A KSU alum, Jackson earned both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration in Fall 2015. He also earned three degrees from Auburn University, a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration, a Master of Education (Adult Education), a Doctor of Philosophy (Adult Education/Higher Education Administration) and is planning to enroll in law school Fall 2017 to study constitutional law and civil litigation. 

 

​Jackson has a long list of accolades including receiving an Emmy Award nomination earlier this year as well as being a finalist for the Professional Promise Award by the National Association for Academic Advisors in 2015.  Additionally, he was a standout student-athlete in football at Auburn University receiving All-SEC honors both in football and academically.  

 

​In his current role as director of Advising for University College, Jackson will oversee the advising efforts for the NEST, the Michael A. Leven School of Culinary Sustainability and Hospitality, and the Department of Leadership and Integrative Studies.  Jackson has and will continue to serve students utilizing his expertise in student motivation, which will prepare students for academic success and employment after college.
