This year's annual First-Year Convocation and Induction ceremony, our 14th such event, was one of the largest in recent years, attracting approximately 1200 students drawn from both campuses.  It was an impressive turnout, and students were treated to an outstanding speaker, Yen Rodriguez, leadership coordinator at the Center for Student Leadership, who, as an alum of KSU, was able to connect with and inspire the incoming class of 2019.  Additionally, the aerial photo that commemorates our first-year students' induction to the KSU family of scholars was once again a tremendous draw for students and their families.

 

The success of this event was dependent upon the collaborative efforts of our many campus partners. In particular, we are grateful to:

 

• the President's Office for funding and supporting this annual event;

• the Platform Party, for taking the time to join us in welcoming our first-year students;

• the members of the First-Year Convocation planning committee, who represent the many units across campus involved in Convocation;

• the Week of Welcome Committee, for collaborating with us to ensure a coordinated schedule of events for the day; and

• most of all, our campus volunteers -- students, staff, faculty and alumni -- who gave of their time to assist with the many day-of activities that ensured the smooth running of the event.

 

We also appreciate the more than 60 faculty members who participated in the processional, providing a strong show of faculty support for our first-year students at this once-in-a-lifetime ceremony.
