UC admits its first graduate students

Keisha Hoerrner, dean of University College, proudly welcomed the first round of admitted students as the founding graduate class in the Master of Science in First-Year Studies degree program in University College!

 

The M.S. in First-Year Studies (MSFYS) was approved by the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents in 2013. The only degree-granting program focused on the emergent discipline of first-year studies, the MSFYS is led by Stephanie Foote, a pre-eminent scholar in first-year and transition studies, and is housed in an academic department nationally recognized for its curricular initiatives for first-year and transitional students.

 

“I am delighted to launch our graduate program with a group of students who have already achieved an impressive variety of academic and professional accomplishments. Furthermore, their enthusiasm for first-year students and student success is unparalleled, and I feel certain our graduate students will make tremendous contributions to the scholarship and practice of the discipline of first-year studies. They truly are the next generation of scholars and practitioners!” said Foote.
