Faculty begin Fall 2015 with scholarly publication

Congratulations to Stephanie Foote, professor of Education and director of the Master of Science Program in First-Year Studies, along with Jean So, assistant director of Orientation and Transition Programs, for their recent publication.
The two scholars received notice that their manuscript, Fostering Self-Authorship in the Transfer Student Experience through the Development of a Learning Community, has been accepted for publication in the forthcoming peer-reviewed promising practices monograph of the 13th Annual Conference of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (published by the University of North Georgia Press).
The manuscript is based on a concurrent session presentation given by Foote and So at the 13th Annual Conference of National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students in February 2015. The monograph in which the manuscript will appear focuses on promising practices in serving transfer students. The team’s goal in this inaugural effort is to highlight the work of practitioners and researchers who work with transfer students, often without due notice or recognition.
“Given the number of students transferring to KSU annually, the university engaged in a self-study process that allowed faculty and staff to develop a deeper understanding of the transfer student experience at KSU. As a result of that process, staff in Orientation and Transition Programs (OTP) and faculty in First-Year and Transition Studies (FYTS) were able to create curricular and co-curricular programs for transfer students. One of the programs developed and led by faculty and staff in OTP and FYTS is the transfer student learning community, ‘Flourishing at KSU,’ which is the focus of this paper,” said Foote.”
