UC receives a $25,000 STEM Grant

Several members of the FYTS Department are part of a team that received a $25,000 USG CCG Innovation Grant that focuses on improvements in STEM core courses leading to improved student learning. Ruth Goldfine, Cathy Bradford, Hillary Steiner, and Nirmal Trivedi in FYTS partnered with Lori Lowder and Laura Ruhala in KSU's Mechanical Engineering Department to develop and submit a proposal for an initiative to promote success among first-year Mechanical Engineering students. With the funds they have been awarded, this team will work to create a course that serves as both an introduction to Mechanical Engineering and a first-year seminar course.

The course would be modeled after an existing seminar that has been successfully implemented within a targeted learning community for first-year Chemistry students.
